2nd ART AND PSYCHOANALYSIS FESTIVAL

The "Shapes" of Thought
An encounter between Art and Psychoanalysis

curated by Claudia Spadazzi and Francesco Castellet y Ballarà
with the collaboration with Adriana D’Arezzo, Clelia De Vita, Sabrina Gubbini
under the patronage of the Società Psicoanalitica Italiana

The encounter with art activates our senses and our feelings, thus leading us back to the emotional contact with something untold, unutterable or not yet thought but which is inside each one of us. This takes place through an "external" concrete and tangible "object", any form of work of art, which creates a communication between the unconscious of the artist and that of the viewers and viceversa. The 2nd Art and Psychoanalysis Festival, under the auspices of the Italian Society of Psychoanalysis, proposes a series of artistic events: drama (Eleonora Danco/ Michele Suozzo), photography (Anna Di Prospero/ Stephanie Gengotti/ Alisa Resnik/ Annette Schreyer, Ilaria Prili), video-art (Angela Marzullo), discussants: Francesco Castellet y Ballarà, Gabriela Goldstein, Manuela Fraire, Amedeo Falci, who will interpret the unconscious patterns underlying the creative effort.

from 10.30 to 12.00
THE PORTRAIT

photography and violin concert Anna Di Prospero, Stephanie Gengotti, Alisa Resnik, Annette Schreyer
composer and violinist Gabriele Rendina
discussant Francesco Castellet y Ballarà
curated by Ilaria Prili

The portrait and the self-portrait are an attempt to represent the other and ourselves. It is like using words to describe emotions, dreams and the whole word in the field of psychoanalysis.
The sound of the violin accompanies the portraits of four famous photographs. Like the music of words during the analysis, this sound aims to bring us closer to the magic encounter with the unknown in ourselves and in the other. Francesco Castellet y Ballarà, neurologist, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst of the Italian Society of Psychoanalysis and an expert in the field of visual arts, will discuss the representation as an expression of emotions both in the artistic experience and in the psychoanalytical one.

from 12.15 to 13.30
LA CRISE DE L’EDUCATION

video-artist Angela Marzullo
introductory remarks by Anna Cestelli Guidi
discussant Gabriela Goldstein
curated by Clelia De Vita

Thoughts on education in line with the writings by the German philosopher Hannah Arendt, who extensively investigated the notion of ideal education, based on the conservative principles linked to modernity, starting from the text The crisis of culture. This project is located inside a modernist low-cost housing complex of the 1970’s, and the reference to Harendt is found in the contrast between the architecture of the building an the dialogue between two adolescents. The discussant will be Gabriela Goldstein, psychoanalyst of the Asociaciòn Psicoanalìtica Argentina, architect and expert in the field of Art and Psychoanalysis, editor of the text Art in Psychoanalysis: A Contemporary Approach to Creativity and Analytic Practice, IPA-Karnac.

from 16.00 to 17.00
ATHALIE’S DREAM

from the tragedy by J.Racine
interpreted by Fulvia De Thierry (Athalie) and by Maria Luigia Malatesta (Jesabel)
musical performance Lorenzo Massotti (viola)
costumes by Fabrizio Maria Garzi Malusardi
directed by Michele Suozzo
discussed by Manuela Fraire
curated by Sabrina Gubbini

A tragedy in which the passion for intelligence and the hatred of superstition lead to give up maternal love and one’s life. Athalie is the protagonist of Racine’s tragedy. She gives up her love for the sake of the state and ultimately loses her life. Manuela Fraire, a psychoanalyst particularly interested in the "feminine world", interprets and explains a dream by Athalie, conjuring up the tragedy of three generations of royal descent.

from 17.15 to 19.00
NOBODY LOOKS AT US

written and interpreted by Eleonora Danco
discussed by Amedeo Falci
curated by Adriana d’Arezzo

Childhood memories come out abruptly like unexpected stumbling blocks involving stops and a new approach to the past. Eleonora Danco stages a dialogue between the adult and the childish parts of the mind. This dialogue, always been investigated by psychoanalysis, features the prompt look of the child, it cries for the missing encounter and it does not lose the hope to overcome the "no-one looks at us" fear. The discussant will be Amedeo Falci, child neuropsychiatrist, child and adolecent psychoanalyst and an expert in the field of communication between the mother and the child.
