4th FILM AND PSYCHOANALYSIS FESTIVAL

Myth, mankind’s dream

curated by Claudia Spadazzi and Fabio Castriota
in collaboration with Sabrina Gubbini
under the patronage of the Società Psicoanalitica Italiana

Two "mythic" directors, Pierpaolo Pasolini and John Houston, for a reflection on the "myth, human being’s dream".
The 4 Section Cinema and Psychoanalysis, by Claudia Spadazzi and Fabio Castriota, proposes the theme of the myth, as an origin’s narration, and how it works as a representation of different cultures’ needs.
In the Section antiques myths and modern myths will . Three absolute masterpieces by Pasolini will be shown, the myth of Oedipus the King, "still capable to rouse the modern men as the contemporary Greeks (Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams)"; Medea interpreted by Maria Callas and the figure of Jesus Christ in The Gospel according to St. Matthews. Further on, three modern myths by John Houston will be proposed: Marylyn Monroe sex-symbol and icon of the eternal youth; Moby Dick and the of one’s own borders; finally, Montgomery Clift’s extraordinary interpretation , even if not well known, of a tormented Sigmund Freud during the discovery of the Unconscious.
In contemporary times, what is the survival of the antique myth and how does it articulate with a globalized mankind, scarcely differentiated in terms of sexual gender? A mankind whose sacred dimension is progressively more and more reduced? What is the bond among antique and modern myths, from a symbolic point of view, or do they rapidly change, like the actual ways of communication? About this theme film producer and President ANICA Riccardo Tozzi, film directors Cristina Comencini and Pietro Cannizzaro, critic Italo moscati, psychoanalysts (Italian Psychoanalytical Society, SPI and Italian Psychoanalytic Association, AIPSI) Simona Argentieri, Claudio Arnetoli, Alessandro Bruni, Anna Ferruta, Paola Marion, Mario Rossi Monti will discuss.
