CASA MENOTTI

Documentation Center of the Festival dei Due Mondi

Founded in 2011 from the collaboration between the Foundation Monini, the Foundation Festival of Two Worlds and the Town Hall of Spoleto, the Documentation Center of the Festival of Two Worlds has its headquarters in Casa Menotti, the historic palace in Piazza Duomo where the Festival originated and where the Maestro Gian Carlo Menotti lived, composed and hosted internationally renowned artists.
In its three years of opening, the Documentation Center has become a lively place for Spoleto culture attended by thousands of visitors every year. Not only can you find the documents, audio, video, photographic and paper material, cataloged and digitized, on the Festival from 1958 to the present, but also attend concerts that take place in the rooms of the museum which is home to many objects that belonged to the Maestro (including his piano), stop for a day of study or simply take a tour that allows you to be immersed in the life and works of Gian Carlo Menotti.
Each year, the center is also enriched with new documents, among the most interesting accessible from this year’s Festival are those relative to the years 1987 and 2012, which have recently been digitized and placed on file. For 1987, for example, it will be possible to see the historical edition again of Wagner’s Parsifal (6 hours of music) under the direction of the same Menotti and the scenes by Pierluigi Samaritani, the Montezuma created for the Festival by Heinrich Graun and again die Gespenstersonate work by Albert Reiman, the performance of the Stuttgarter Ballet and all the prose of that year with titles like The story of Nini Vasco Pratolini, Un piccolo delinquente nevrotico by Svevo, Tutti gli uomini sono puttane by David Mamet, Fatto di cronaca by Raffaele Viviani. Even more extensive is the documentation on the year 2012 with 32 shows, 39 hours of recording time and all the protagonists of the last edition.

Opening hours: 10:30 13:00 & 15:30 20:00
