Represented successfully for the first time, at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia on April 1, 1937, the opera was revived in many American and European theaters only to arrive in Italy on April 4, 1938 at the Teatro Municipale in San Remo. The comic opera, set in the early twentieth century, tells the story of Amelia, a young woman immersed in luxury, who yearns to participate in the first ball of the season. The husband, who should accompany her, discovers she has been unfaithful and demands to know with whom in exchange for a promise to take her to the ball. Amelia reveals that her lover is the tenant upstairs. After lies, arguments and threats a police officer arrives, with whom Amelia will finally end up going to the ball.
