The scene of Era d´Ottobre/It was October opens with images of Eisenstein´s film dedicated to the Bolshevik Revolution and, subsequently, with the painting I funerali di Togliatti/Togliatti’s funeral by Renato Guttuso. It is from this painting that, in order to recount the hundred years of the Russian Revolution (1917-2017), Paolo Mieli was inspired to try to explain why some of the great protagonists of the century long history of communism - (Lenin, Stalin, Togliatti, Dolores Ibarruri , Ho chi Minh) are represented and others (Trotzky, Krusciov, Mao, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Solgenitsin, Dubcek) are not.
A portrait is dedicated to each of these characters in a story that crosses the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War, the De-stalinization, the Gulags, the Soviet dissent, the fights for liberation, the Chinese Revolution, the Cuban Revolution, the Revolt in Hungary, the Prague Spring, the Korean war and that of Vietnam. Then to conclude, the Gorbachev era, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989), and in the theater a tribute to these one hundred years of history.
