The Jazz Department of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome, directed by the composer and bass player Paolo Damiani, presents a program divided in two parts. In the first one, Rosario Giuliani, professor of jazz sax and world-renown soloist, conducts an ensemble of excellent students, while in the second one, Paolo Damiani leads a sextet including some of the best jazz graduates, all well-known soloists. The first part of the concert is based on some of the pieces that were part of Charlie Parker’s repertoire, from which the solos have been extrapolated, arranged for five saxes and rhythm section. Some original pieces by Rosario Giuliani are added to this list. In the second part, the program includes Paolo Damiani’s compositions featuring an original melodic streak that is rooted in the ethnic music of Southern Italy and in  Italian Opera. In the musical tracks, though strongly structured, the lines of the counterpoint tend to create open and flexible sound spaces where the breath and the sudden gesture dance freely and joyfully. The melodiousness of compositions is an endless research, especially meant as curious listening, invention, astonishment, ironic wandering, pleasure, enjoyment.
