conductor Lt. Col. Leonardo Laserra Ingrosso
The band of the Guardia di Finanza was officially founded in 1926, bringing together into a single instrumental group, the different marching bands that since 1883 had been established at some of the Units of the Body. Currently it is a stable artistic complex formed of a Master Conductor, a Deputy Conductor and 102 performers from different Italian Conservatories and incorporated, through an accurate selection, by means of a national competition. During its long and intense concert activities, the band has performed at the most prestigious Italian musical institutions including the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, La Scala of Milan, the San Carlo in Naples, the Opera Theater of Rome, the Massimo and Politeama in Palermo, La Fenice in Venice, the Bellini of Catania, the Flavio Vespasiano of Rieti and the Petruzzelli of Bari. Numerous and much appreciated were the concerts in the Basilica di Massenzio in Rome and repeated were the collaborations with some of the most renowned Italian and international symphony orchestras such as the RAI of Rome, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Festival of Spoleto. The whole band complex has repeatedly been abroad with successful tours in Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium, France, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. In particular in 2002 in New York, on the occasion of the celebrations for Columbus Day, it held an immersive and moving concert at Ground Zero, which is the symbol of the national American conscience after the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Its talent in fusion, the quality of the sound and the interpretative sensitivity make the whole band complex one of the most prestigious at an international level and ensure its continued success of public and critics.
Its vast repertoire which consists of original pieces and transcriptions, allows it to range from classical to contemporary music and can be considered one of the most meaningful and complete.
The Master Conductors succeeding one another in time have been prestigious and professional, amongst which we recall Giuseppe Manente, Antonio D´Elia, Olivio Di Domenico, Fulvio Creux and Gino Bergamini.
Since April 16, 2002 , the Conductor of the Musical Band has been the Lt. Col. Leonardo Laserra Ingrosso.
