ITALIAN NAVY BAND
CONCERT

The Italian Navy Band originates from the small instrumental bands that, in the Pre-Unity Navies, were usually shipped on board in the Flag-ships. In 1861 with the union of the Navies of the Sardinian-Piedmontese’s Kingdom and of the Two Sicilies’ Kingdom, the first band "ensemble" had its start with the birth of the Italian Royal Navy. It was a small instrumental band shipped on the Admiral Navy and constituted by bandsmen coming from the Bourbon Navy, including the first conductor.
The Navy Military Band is composed of a Conductor, a Vice Conductor, 102 Musicians and an Archivist, all of them coming from the best known Schools of Music, and all active duty service members. Their repertoire encompasses all music genres, from original band literature to classical music, from opera to symphonies, from pop/rock  to jazz.
The Italian Navy Band regularly performs in Italy (very important national theatres and squares such as Milano, Roma, Venezia, Napoli, Trieste, Genova, Parma, Bari, Catania) and abroad (Sweden, Spain, Belgium, USA, New Zeland,  Egypt, Germany, Austria).
In 2004 it was awarded the "Peace Knighthood" by the ’International Center of Assisi for Peace among Peoples’ for its ability to convey, through its music, the image of our Navy’s international increasing social and humanitarian commitment.
It has also a large production of recording video material.
At present the Italian Navy Music Band’s Commanding Officer is Commander Santo Pagano Giorgianni and the Conductor is Commander Maestro Antonio Barbagallo.
