GIORGIO FERRARA IN BEIJING FOR THE FIRST ITALY-CHINA CULTURAL FORUM FOLLOWING THE STATE VISIT OF PRESIDENT SERGIO MATTARELLA. THE SHOW TRIBUTE TO DARIO FO IN CHINESE ANNOUNCED.
Economy and culture were held to be of equal value during the state visit of our President Sergio Mattarella to Beijing. Following the President, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Graziano Delrio, and the Undersecretary for Economic Development, Ivan Scalfarotto, there were in fact, not only the major representatives of Italian industry this time, but also prestigious figures from the cultural world of our country.
While the 4th Italy-China Business Forum took place in one venue, in another there was the 1st Italy-China Cultural Forum which got underway thanks to the cooperation agreement signed in Beijing last July 20th by the Minister Dario Franceschini and the Minister of Culture of the People’s Republic of China Luo Shugang. An agreement defined as "an understanding between two cultural superpowers" whose objective is to recognize, investigate and act on the treasure trove of opportunities that can be seen for China and Italy in terms of creation of joint projects in the cultural and arts sector.
Among the representatives of the delegation to China, led by Francesco Rutelli, coordinator for the Italian side, there was also Giorgio Ferrara, Director of the Festival of Two Worlds, Sergio Escobar, Director of the Piccolo Teatro of Milan, and Alexander Pereira, Superintendent of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan .
In his speech to the Forum, Giorgio Ferrara underlined how "tradition, contemporaneity, excellence and internationalism are the inspirational concepts upon which the Spoleto Festival creates its artistic planning. And it is precisely for this reason that China - a country with a millenary civilization but also strongly striving for innovation - today appears like an ideal partner, being among the main countries that are developing strategies which aim at integration of global artistic resources to expand the export of culture and creativity," and announced the presentation of the show Aveva due pistole con gli occhi bianchi e neri by Dario Fo during the next edition of the Festival of Two Worlds. "Meng Jinghui, the most praised and innovative Chinese theater director, will pay tribute to our great author and Nobel Prize winner for literature Dario Fo, who has passed away recently, staging his text in Chinese for the first time in Italy."
The agreement endorsed for the production of this show in Spoleto is part of the numerous agreements signed by the two countries during the two Forums: 13 agreements that represent a short-term value of several billion and open up significant economic, trade and cultural prospects in the years to come.
In closing, Giorgio Ferrara took part in the official lunch offered by President Xi Jinping, in honor of President Sergio Mattarella, held at the conclusion of the state visit to Beijing which gathered together the most eminent display of culture and entrepreneurship in Italy and China for the first time.
