Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, is at the Festival of Spoleto for the first time, together with Benoit Jacquot, one of the most refined authors of French cinematography.
Written by the Swiss composer Arthur Honegger in 1938, Jeanne d’Arc au Bűcher is a fascinating musical fresco. The libretto by Paul Claudel is constructed like a flashback, where Joan thinks back on her life just before dying. The last moments of the martyr’s life, illustrated with the innovative and evocative music by Honegger, resound like an excruciating scream.
