JAZZ RHYTHMS AND COLORS

The concert features the students who have taken a compositional and executive research path aimed at staging a performance entirely constituted by original pieces which they themselves have composed and arranged during the academic year.
This is an opportunity to listen to a jazz concert that sheds a light on the world of contemporary jazz written and performed by students - which in this case, are largely professional musicians active on the jazz music scene - committed to expressive and creative research, witnesses of the distinguished vitality that jazz has always possessed within its language.

JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Conservatory of Perugia Jazz Orchestra
directed by Mario Raja

The Jazz Book

The Jazz Orchestra of the Conservatory of Perugia, which consists of over 40 elements, brings together members enrolled in the three-year Jazz courses, classes that have attracted many young talents to Perugia from all over Italy in the last few years. It is portrayed by an atypical student body, which along with the usuall instruments for this kind of training (piano, double bass, drums, saxophones, trumpets, clarinets) stands out for its section of 14 guitarists and a small choir.

The conductor is Mario Raja, one of the best known jazz musicians in Italy, teacher at the Conservatory for numerous years, who has arranged the repertoire specifically for these members.

Like a transversal journey across the history of Jazz, the program presents a series of "Standards", mostly famous songs, linked to the interpretation of the greatest jazz musicians of all eras, from Charlie Parker to Ella Fitzgerald. Each piece is assigned to one or two soloists, so as to appreciate both the individual qualities and the great impact of the ensemble.
