Visit to the Teatro Nuovo undergrounds and the ancient terme di Torasio
Appointment in front of Teatro Nuovo Giancarlo Menotti.
It is known that in Roman times there were thermal baths in Spoleto, that is places with pools of warm water, natural or heated, that Romans (wealthy) loved, and used very much, as a place of hygiene, rest, entertainment, meeting and in some environments, as an exercise gym. In fact the road which follows Via Giustolo and stops at the Giardini dell’Ippocastano/Gardens is called Via delle Terme. Perhaps there were some near the Roman Theater, the oldest and public ones. Then after the construction of the theater, the others seem to have been made privately, owned by Caio Torasio Severo. These latter ones show remains, not normally visible, under the Court House parking. However it is assumed that these thermal baths were very vast, reaching the modern areas of Palazzo Pianciani and Theater Menotti. Accessing the theater, the remains of the furnace that heated the water and the bases of the columns which supported the baths can be viewed. The whole area corresponding to the parking facilities shows traces. These belong to the II century after Christ, with restorations in IV (by Costanzo II) and in the VI century (by Teodorico).
They were unearthed during the construction of the St. Philip Neri church.

Lombard Spoleto, from Basilica of San Salvatore to mosaics in Palazzo Mauri
Appointment in Piazzale Salmi (Basilica of San Salvatore)
The constitution of the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto occured shortly after the arrival of the Lombards in Italy (568 AD). Recent archaeological excavations have brought to light some significant testimonies of post-classical age such as a complex of environments destined to spas in the vicinity of the hole under Palazzo Mauri, which shows extraordinary mosaic flooring. In 2005, during the recovery interventions of Palazzo Pianciani, a baptistery attributable to the VIII century with polychrome mosaic flooring was brought to light. The existence of a Lombard district to be placed in the northern area of the city, near the amphitheater which was already re-qualified into a military-defensive function in Gothic age, has been hypothesized for a while. The most important testimonies of the Lombard age are concentrated in the area of Colle Ciciano, where besides the Basilica of San Salvatore, there was the ecclesia baptismalis of San Michele Arcangelo and the funereal area of San Ponziano, where the tombstone of the lombard Agipertus was returned. The historical framework of reference to the Duchy of Spoleto has been returned in the collection of objects exposed in the Rocca fortress at the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto.

Spoleto pre-Roman, traces of an ancient history 2, 700 years ago
Appointment in Via Cecili (Mura Ciclopiche/Cyclopean Walls)
From the first Umbrian settlement surrounded by a polygonal wall to the finds of Piazza dŽArmi exposed at the National Archaeological Museum: a journey on the traces of the very ancient Italic people told across the remains of the polygonal city walls and the extraordinary finds discovered in recent digs, now kept in the National Archaeological Museum and Roman Theater of Spoleto. In the summer of 2012, during the analysis of radiography foreseen on the legacy which originated from the necropolis of Piazza dŽArmi in Spoleto, the metal finds were brought to Ancona at the restoration laboratory of the Superintendence to the Archaeological Heritage of the Marche region. Thus it was that on August 4 those that were classified as simple iron "teste di mazza"/club heads turned out to be, in reality, a pair of iron and bronze scepters depicting very complex scenes, without equal on the Italian and European scenes, belonging to the first King of Spoleto and dated back to the VII century B.C.
