When design, the one that excites, meets the Umbrian territory.
Black Hemp "I looked at the ruins and imagined the future" is the installation created by the Umbria Region, a project that involves the Accademia delle Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci directed by Paolo Belardi working with the Milanese artist Daniela Gerini.
An algid two-faced wall to tell the story of a courageous people whose economy is ready to be relaunched. There is gray, memory of the urban stone of the Basilica of San Benedetto in Norcia, and then there are the explosive colors of the Pian Grande in bloom. Two sides of the same work linked by a thin and exciting common thread. An installation that comes not only from scientific research, but also artistic.

Black Hemp is the perfect union between the Nera river and the resistant fiber, whose processing is part of the know-how of the Umbrian territory. In particular, the Apennine ridge that crosses the territory has always been an Italian reality among the most dedicated to the cultivation of the plant. It is not by chance that the Hemp Museum of Sant΄Anatolia di Narco is located here, which besides a vast historical documentation on its use, houses a production center where hemp is materially processed to create innovative and experimental prototypes. With the raw materials of hemp you can produce fabrics, paper, plastics, paints, fuels and even a high quality food oil, in a clean and cost-effective way. Today, for example, hemp is widely used in the construction of a house in the context of sustainable architecture. If it is true that the reconstruction of Umbria post-earthquake requires a change of pace from "where it was, as it was" to a reflection on architectural quality and the need for a new culture of the use of materials to be used in the future, why not deal with reconstruction, raising the local economy, thanks to hemp? Not only a rebuilding of houses and churches, but also the reinstating of trust in people. In this delicate process of reconstruction, we must find the conditions for a community, after having suffered a trauma, to look to the future with renewed energy and hope. Living is not just a material act ("house in motion"), but it is also an immaterial act ("house in emotion"). Likewise, the task of reconstruction is not only to give back a home, but also to preserve an identity. Dragging memories and hopes beyond the emergency.
