Love is the protagonist of this third musical theater play inspired by the classical Myths that I’ve composed after Minotauro and Proserpine, and once again realized thanks to Giorgio Ferrara who commissioned it for the Spoleto Festival: Arianna, Fedra, Didone, three monodramas for Actress, Women´s Choir and Orchestra based on texts by Ovid´s Epistulae Heroidum
Imaginary letters that revolve around love, distance, and death, and marked by the theme of a beloved’s absence, delved into nostalgia for a joyful past and a desperate desire to recreate it.
Heartbreaking and poignant letters, full of passion and tenderness that trace sentimental events not shown from the point of view of the heroes, who appears simply weak in their refusal of love, but of the abandoned women, who become the true heroines.
When she awakes, Ariadne pens Theseus, realizing that he has abandoned her by fleeing into the sea.
Phaedra, madly in love with her stepson Hippolytus, writes a seductive letter to persuade the young boy to yield to an impossible and incestuous love.
Dido, sensing her own fatal destiny, writes to Aeneas in a last attempt to have him back.
The actress plays the three women, each with a history and personality of their own, tracing a wonderful fresco of the female universe. At times, the protagonists’ voices are entrusted to a women Chorus who recites Ovid’s original text in Latin – a sort of mirror for the character who looks upon herself from the outside, investigating the different colors of her soul, or magnifying her memories of the past in attempt to make them  real again.
The words converse or meld with the melody of the orchestra, which at times foretells and other times underlines the different moods that arise and overlap in a flow of thoughts that recounts Love as eternal and universal.
