The Region of Umbria is following an innovative path to arrive at a definition of its Brand identity. Along this path, culture and design have a definite, specific place for the enhancement of its strategic qualities. Design is understood as a qualifying factor of handicraft and industrial production in function of the overall quality of the territory. The cultural roots of this vision are easily distinguishable in the tradition, in the history of the Umbrian cities and in its cultural heritage, whether they are placed in local Italian museums, or any other part of the world. Culture as the basis of design thus becomes an additional factor of contemporary know-how.
After years of experience, especially in Milan at the Fuorisalone, a work that began at Expo2015 reaches the Festival of Spoleto.

The project is proposed as a monolithic object, and is aimed at evoking unusual, emotional aspects of Umbria: from the church of the Porziuncula of Assisi to the CIAC of Foligno, from the fossil forest of Dunarobba to the Etruscan tunnels of Orvieto, from the Grande Nero(Big Black) sculpture by Alberto Burri to the minimetro tunnels by Jean Nouvel in Perugia.
The exterior of the pavilion is decorated with an anagram composed with "monk" lettering, the new font launched at "Expo Milano 2015" which refers to the question that hangs on the installation (Scorched or Blackened?). The interior is highlighted by a linear showcase exhibiting the artistic experiments, in the form of installations, designed by four teachers of the Academy of Fine Arts "Pietro Vannucci" in Perugia regarding the innovative use of the same number of typical, traditional materials of craftsmanship and industry from the green region: paper, ceramic, wood, glass.
The shapes of the prototypes made by Umbrian companies for the Interior Space, "no borders", at the Fuorisalone 2016 draws inspiration from these letters. For the first time, this installation is proposed in Umbria.
