SERMONS
A MESSAGE IN IMAGES

The parables of Jesus

curated by the Archidiocesi Spoleto-Norcia
in collaboration with Spoleto59 Festival dei 2Mondi

The Gospels narrate the life and attentively gather the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth: a wise man, keen observer of humanity, of nature, of everyday life; an influential man with firm convictions; with a passionate love for God and for men, especially the poor and the suffering; a man who could feel the uniqueness of each person; a righteous and upright man, who does not flatter, is not intimidated, has no favorites, but proceeds along his way without reverential fears; a mild man, capable of affection and friendship; a strong man, capable of prophetic scorn, pouncing on hypocrites and liars and severely reprimanding his disciples; a man who meets and speaks to the crowds, a man who often retreats to solitary places in order to nourish the relationship with the Father whom he calls «Abba, Father»; a free man, who pays for the price of his freedom facing death; a man who has a reason for living and therefore also a reason for giving life: love always, love for anyone, even for the enemy. These peculiar features of Jesus also appear when he speaks in parables, from which he "reads" and cautiously interprets the world around him. Taking his teachings from the scenes of everyday life, he launches a challenge to stimulate a decision in the listener. In following what has now become a happy tradition, the Festival of 2 Worlds proposes the cycle of "Sermons 2016" as a journey among some of the most significant parables of Jesus, still able to arouse attention and probe the conscience of contemporary man.
