photographic archive Umberto Pizzi
The representation of Mario D’Urso’s archive, consisting of giant open binders, allows for subdivision of the space within each single binder, obtaining a series of compartments where greatly enhanced objects are alongside images, memorabilia and relics. A path marked by a series of wunderkammer that reveals a life style where elegance and beauty are skillfully designed charms to seduce men and women of power throughout the world.
These gigantic binders reveal the innumerable aspects even of the most private moments in Mario’s life, like secret drawers in a cryptic eighteenth-century secretaire.
The visitor, who is surprised by the alienating effect of the loss of proportions due to the size of the binders, will feel like a microscopic investigator who can access the secrets of the wizard of finance and of the jet set, confidant of the most desired women in the world, trustee of the most powerful men.
The path has elements of continuity: the social life and parties, (invitations, menus, photographs, letters); the friends in high places, predominantly women, who are always present with every falcon’, that is, the Muses portrayed with Mario in gossip tabloids or in the glossy magazines; the covers, articles: how much an effective phrase pronounced by Mario on Mario or written by someone else on Mario, left a mark on a path of life led with a constant love of spectacle in both private and public sphere.
The phrases themselves will become objects, epigraphs, incisive snapshots that, like images focus on many key moments in Mario’s life.
The discontinuity is instead represented by two periods of Mario D’Urso’s life: first the protagonist of the financial world and then the Italian politician.
The idea of the exhibit is to reveal the contents of Mario D’Urso’s archive as they were found, almost as if it were a scoop. A public man par excellence can, while rearranging his memorandum, reveal unpublished stories with unimaginable implications.
The objective is to place the figure of Mario D’Urso, his references and his visual ability in the limelight: being Parthenopean on a planetary scale as the basis of a personality with irrepressible human appeal.
In the unveiled archive this element will be central.
