A contemporary reinterpretation of the relationship between Pylades and Orestes from Greek mythology and the Oresteia, a poetic, tragic meditation on democracy, consumerism, and the fight for true social change. The pace and sentiment of Pasolini’s text, translated into English by Adam Paolozza and Coleen MacPherson, is accentuated by the music and body movement, in this production by Buljan and GJRC, in order to create a performance of movement, text, entertainment and music.
A powerful and provocative staging which brings the beautiful text by Pasolini to new life. The direction was entrusted to Ivica Buljian, currently artistic director of the Croatian National Theatre, an internationally recognized director for a show that is strong and physically very enthralling. The Great Jones Repertory Company is the historical company of La Mama Theatre, remembered above all for the famous performance of Fragments of a Greek Trilogy, by the Romanian director Andrei Serban, which was also presented at the Festival of Spoleto, the Venice Biennial, the Taormina Film Festival as well as at the most important festivals around the world. The combination of these extraordinary performers and Pasolini’s text has produced a brave, extreme and touching show.
