The Choir of the Opera di Roma was involved in the artistic life of the Royal Opera Theater since 1935 by the will of the Artistic Director Tullio Serafin. Besides the operatic repertoire from the XVIII Century to contemporary music, the Group has distinguished itself in symphonic and sacred music, such as in the Concerts at the Sala Nervi offered by the President Giorgio Napolitano to His Holiness Benedetto XVI (2011; 2012). Successful tours took place in Hannover for the Expo 2000, in the Kremlin for Tosca (2003), in St. Petersburg for Nabucco (2011), in Sydney for Verdi’s Requiem (2004). The quality of the performances was assured by collaborations with conductors such as Serafin, De Sabata, Gavazzeni, Karajan, Böhm, Bartoletti, Giulini, Patanè, Mehta, Prêtre , Solti, Gelmetti, Muti, and Gatti. Renowned Italian and foreign choir directors have guaranteed the high musical level of this Company, among them Conca, Lazzari, Boni, Benaglio, Parodi, Meister, Seminara, and Andrea Giorgi. Under the guidance of Maestro Roberto Gabbiani since 2010, the Choir also undertakes the activity in chamber music. The Complex performed the first national execution of Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle in the revision of Gossett. With the collaboration of the Vicariate it spread the music by Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Brahms in the churches of Rome. Maestro Muti directed the Choir in Palazzo Montecitorio in the Concert for the 150th of the Italy’s Unification, at the Salzburg Festival in Nabucco (2013), in Tokyo in Simon Boccanegra and Nabucco (2014).
