Fondazione Carla Fendi
Art & Science into Spoleto
Sol LeWitt / Anna Mahler
For Spoleto64 Festival dei Due Mondi, the Fondazione Carla Fendi presents Art & Science Into Spoleto, Sol LeWitt/Anna Mahler, a project exploring the city’s best-kept secrets. These are two artists who lived in Spoleto from the ‘60s to the ‘80s, drawing inspiration from the city. Sol LeWitt was a leading light of minimalist art, and Anna Mahler, the daughter of Gustav and Alma Mahler Schindler, was a sculptress. Both resided in Spoleto for extended periods, leaving behind testaments to their creativity. Such creativity continues through the Mahler & LeWitt Studios: residencies created a few years ago by Marina Mahler and Caroll LeWitt which host artists from all over the world. For the first time ever, the Carla Fendi Foundation opens to the public with the exhibition Exploring Art.
Art meets science. Continuing a trend previously developed by the Fondazione Carla Fendi, this initiative highlights the links between those two disciplines which are often considered opposites. Art and science are united in an illustrative performance at the Teatro Caio Melisso Spazio Carla Fendi, the oldest theater in the city which was restored by the Foundation, on Sunday June 27.
