Spoleto64 for Dante Alighieri

    From Thursday 08 July

    To Sunday 11 July

This show leads us through the words of the Divina Commedia, bringing Dante’s hendecasyllable poetry to the stage and adopting an interdisciplinary perspective to reveal the true meaning of the journey of the text. In a concert, we hear the music the poet himself loved, and the sounds which surrounded his art. In a conference, panelists reveal historical, aesthetic and performative insights, allowing for a deeper understanding of the literary and musical universe of the great poet. The opera-film Inferno, a new creation by composer Lucia Ronchetti directed by Kay Voges and Markus Lobbes, allows us to discover Dante’s vision of the afterlife by rereading the first chapter of the Divina Commedia in a new production of musical theatre. An exhibition recounting the links between Dante and the ancient Duchy of Spoleto, including precious incunabulum, illustrated editions of the Commedia and maps from the 16th and 17th centuries. In the seventh centenary of his death, the Festival dei Due Mondi pays homage to the father of the language and singer of our humanity.
