Synopsis

Lar Lubovitch re-imagines the choreographic possibilities of jazz in a program composed from three different and distinctive works. In Coltrane's Favorite Things, Lubovitch's effervescent choreography moves his skilled dancers through the air in pirouettes and leaps in ever-changing patterns as if in a kaleidoscopic mechanism, to the notes of Richard Rodgers' classic My Favorite Things, in John Coltrane's iconic interpretation.
Nature Boy: Kurt Elling is a collection of America's most celebrated sentimental songs told through a series of romantic duets designed for Elling's sensual and mysterious interpretations, Elemental Brubeck quotes and captures what was the spirit of the great moments of American dance in film, to the music of Dave Brubeck's extraordinary symphonic jazz compositions from his 1963 album, Time Changes.

Lar Lubovitch Dance Company was founded in 1968. In the past 42 years, it has earned an international reputation as one of the best dance companies in the world. As famous for the excellence of its choreography as for its unparalleled style, the company has created more than 100 new ballets that it has presented to million viewers in the United States and more than 30 countries. Lar Lubovitch Dance Company is supported, in part, from public funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the arts and New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. The Company also receives the generous support of the Harkness Foundation for Dance, McMullan Family Fund, Brooke Garber & Daniel Neidich Foundation, Rudolph Nureyev Foundation for Dance, Jerome Robbins Foudation, to.Woodner Fund.

Lar Lubovitch is one of America's most versatile, best-known and most successful choreographers. Forty-two
years ago he founded the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company which, based to New York, has performed all over the world. Lar Lubovitch's ballets have also been performed from many other major dance companies. His choreography for films includes Othello, Fandango (winner of an International Emmy Award) and My Funny Valentine for Robert Altman's film The Company, for which Lubovitch was nominated for an American Choreography Award. Lubovitch has also made notable contributions to ice dance choreography, creating the ballets of Olympic skaters John Curry, Dorothy Hamill, Peggy Fleming, Brian Orser, JoJo Starbuck and Paul Wylie, as well as the ice shows for television The Sleeping Beauty (PBS) and The Planets (to&E), nominated for an International Emmy Award, a Cable Ace Award and a Grammy Award. His work for Broadway includes Into the Woods (Tony Award nominee), The Red Shoes (Astaire Award) and the Tony Award-winning revival of The King and I. In 2007 he co-founded the Chicago Dancing Festival with Jay Franke. The Festival consists of a series of performances and lectures that take place in August at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Harris Theater, and Chicago Millennium Park. The Chicago Dancing Festival welcomes about 12,000 spectators annually and is a major showcase of the country's best dance companies performing for free. In 2007, Lubovitch was named "Chicagoan of the Year" by the Chicago Tribune, and in 2008, Lubovitch and Jay Franke were named "Chicagoans of the Year" by Chicago Magazine for their commitment to the Festival.
