Musician, singer, producer, and radio host, Arushi Jain presents her latest album Delight at Spoleto. Released in 2024, the record has been acclaimed by Pitchfork, The Fader, and The Guardian for its ability to “weave synthetic programming into expansive and immersive soundscapes, elegantly blending the experimental electronics of the 1980s with the refined melodies of Indian classical music.” Born from a desire to explore joy through sound, Delight sees Jain investigating the relationship between listening and time—how the time of day can influence the way music is perceived. Her previous album, Under The Lilac Sky (2021), was celebrated as Pitchfork’s Experimental Album of the Year and The Guardian’s Global Album of the Month. Her new live set traverses the familiar sonic territories of her musical universe, while decisively and innovatively expanding its rhythmic scope. A sense of timelessness—of creating and existing outside rigid and external definitions—forms a fundamental creative framework for Jain. Splitting her time between New Delhi and New York, and drawing inspiration from both cities as well as a formative decade spent in the Bay Area, Jain builds a personal musical language. Her influences range from Indian classical legends such as Ustad Z.M. Dagar, Sharan Rani, and Shiv Kumar Sharma, to pioneers like Sheila Chandra, Terry Riley, Laurie Spiegel, and Charanjit Singh, and contemporary artists including Squarepusher, Coil, Kangding Ray, Alva Noto, Donato Dozzy, Aphex Twin, HTRK, Cocteau Twins, and Mazzy Star. Her music is not a forced fusion of different worlds, but rather an organic expression of her personal taste—one she continues to explore through her monthly residencies on NTS Radio and Lot Radio.
