Synopsis

Following last year’s success, jazz once again takes the spotlight at the Festival dei Due Mondi. A highly anticipated event for music lovers, the festival is both a prestigious stage for internationally renowned artists and a showcase for the rising stars of the jazz scene.

On July 5, the stage belongs to Francesca Tandoi, a virtuoso pianist and refined vocalist celebrated as a rising star in jazz. With an impeccable sense of swing, she has won over audiences and critics alike, sharing the stage with jazz greats such as Scott Hamilton, Philip Harper, Joe Cohn, and Darius Brubeck.

Francesca Tandoi

Francesca Tandoi, an undisputed rising star in the jazz world, is a virtuoso pianist, elegant vocalist, gifted composer, and remarkable bandleader. With a career already marked by international acclaim, she has established herself as one of the most exciting and versatile talents in contemporary jazz. In just a few short years, Francesca has taken her music to the far corners of the globe, delighting audiences and critics alike with her compelling performances. Her collaborations read like a who’s who of the jazz world, having worked with notable artists such as Scott Hamilton, Philip Harper, Joe Cohn, Owen Hart Jr., Darius Brubeck, Anthony Pinciotti, Lee Pearson, Jason Brown, Darryl Hall, Dave Blankhorn, Marjorie Barnes, Florin Nicolescu, Sergey Manukyan, and many more. She was also invited by Michael League to join Snarky Puppy during their live performance at Umbria Jazz 2023, a testament to her growing influence in the jazz scene. Francesca has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals, including the North Sea Jazz, Umbria Jazz, Cork Jazz, Breda Jazz, the Amsterdam Arena Stadium, and the Bosendorfer Piano Festival. Her travels have taken her across the USA, Indonesia, India, Japan, South Africa, Russia, Turkey, Israel, and throughout Europe, earning her an enthusiastic following everywhere she plays. With over twenty recordings to her name, Francesca shines on three albums as the pianist for the renowned saxophonist Scott Hamilton’s quartet. In recent years, she has found her voice most clearly in the trio format, allowing her expansive expressive freedom and distinctive intensity. While firmly grounded in jazz tradition, her musical vision is always forward-thinking. As a bandleader, Francesca has released seven albums with her trio since 2014, with Winddance being recognized as one of the "Top 10 Best Jazz Albums of 2017" by the prestigious Japanese magazine Jazz Life, which also named her one of Europe’s most exciting young jazz talents. Francesca is also a respected educator, having taught masterclasses titled "The Art of Arranging for Piano Trio" at Washington University in Saint Louis, the Moscow Clinics of Jazz, Music University of Pretoria, and numerous other institutions across Italy and Europe. She currently serves as a professor of jazz piano at the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna.
