Happy Birthday, Maestro!
Roots and Rhythm: the tribute of the Banda Musicale “Città di Spoleto” to Gian Carlo Menotti
Happy Birthday, Maestro!
Synopsis
The “Città di Spoleto” Band honours Gian Carlo Menotti on the anniversary of his birth with a travelling concert celebrating the profound bond between the Festival’s founder and the city of Spoleto.
The program offers a musical journey that celebrates one of the most emblematic forms of band literature: the march – particularly well suited to open-air performance and to creating a festive atmosphere. The repertoire features marches by composers from the “Two Worlds,” ranging from traditional symphonic works to more modern, brilliant pieces, alongside selections inspired by the Dixieland style, resulting in a varied and dynamic program.
The evening will also include the Italian premiere of Lewisohn Stadium Fanfare (1965) by Gian Carlo Menotti, presented in a band arrangement by Maestro Lorenzo Rosati. The performance concludes with Tanti auguri, Gian Carlo by Angelo Silvio Rosati, a tribute to the composer who recognized his talent. The national anthems of the two worlds will also be performed, sealing the dialogue between the two sides of the Atlantic.
