Synopsis
Du bout des lèvres is Benjamin Millepied’s latest creation, inspired by the poetic universe of the singer Barbara.
Deeply influenced from a young age by the French chanson, Millepied draws on this intimate musical memory to shape a choreography nourished by the singer’s powerful melodies and her finely wrought lyrics.
Within a pared-down stage space, flooded with light and veiled by white drapes, bodies emerge and dissolve, embodying the full spectrum of emotions that runs through Barbara’s work – from nostalgia to passion, from tenderness to tragedy.
In Du bout des lèvres, the songs become the very breath of movement. Echoing the spirit of Brahms’s Liebeslieder Walzer and the great ballets of Balanchine, these waltzes resonate through the dance as a hymn to life. Millepied conjures a raw, visceral humanity and a vibrant poetry, remaining faithful to the emotional intensity of one of the most poignant voices of the twentieth century.
