This project was initiated by the Direzione Rai Per la Sostenibilità – ESG as part of RO.MENS, the festival focused on mental health held annually in Rome since 2022.
The handbook, created in collaboration with the Ordine dei Giornalisti and the Dipartimento di Salute Mentale ASL Roma 2, aims to combat stigmatization through balanced and informed storytelling, treating mental disorders with responsibility, impartiality, and respect.
In our society, the media play a key role in shaping public opinion and individual attitudes. This role can be a positive force in overcoming prejudice and stigma in a complex area such as mental health.
Television, print media, social media, radio, and blogs can help promote the rights and protect the dignity of people with mental health conditions, debunk harmful myths, and counter entrenched prejudices that lead to social exclusion and make it harder to ask for help.
In this perspective, a strategic alliance between mental health professionals and media professionals is essential to promote understanding and contribute to the creation of a truly inclusive culture.
