Synopsis
The concert by Guido Sant’Anna and Plinio Fernandes brings together, for the Under 21 project, two leading figures of the new international music scene, united by early talent, rapidly rising careers, and a deep connection to their Brazilian musical roots.
Still very young, at just twenty years old, Guido Sant’Anna has already drawn worldwide attention as one of the most promising violinists of his generation, distinguished by interpretative maturity, expressive intensity, and a technical assurance remarkable for his age. His successes in major international competitions, such as the Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna—where he became the first South American to win the gold medal—and his debuts in prestigious venues including London’s Wigmore Hall and Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle, have consolidated his reputation across Europe and the Americas, revealing an artist capable of combining freshness with depth.
Alongside him, Plinio Fernandes—among the most acclaimed guitarists of the new generation—has brought the classical guitar to some of the world’s most prestigious stages, pairing the great repertoire with a refined celebration of Brazilian popular tradition, and collaborating with musicians such as Lang Lang and Sheku Kanneh-Mason. His international debuts and distinguished collaborations testify to a solid and authoritative artistic path, establishing him as an ambassador of Brazilian musical culture worldwide, as further evidenced by his winning of the Revelação Award at the 30th Prêmio da Música Brasileira.
The collaboration between Sant’Anna and Fernandes stands out for its cohesion and natural rapport: violin and guitar engage in a dialogue marked by elegance and vitality, alternating lyricism and rhythm, virtuosity and cantabile expression. The program spans emblematic works of the twentieth century and the South American tradition: from the Ária from Heitor Villa-Lobos’s Fifth Bachianas Brasileiras to the folk-inspired atmospheres of Manuel de Falla and the tango of Astor Piazzolla, culminating in the vibrant colors of Ernesto Nazareth. It is a richly evocative and energetic journey that celebrates the meeting of classical forms and popular repertoire.
