Synopsis
The Quatuor Arod - one of the most brilliant chamber ensembles of the new generation - brings its electrifying energy and refined interpretative maturity to the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto for the first time. Since its founding in 2013, the French quartet has distinguished itself through a compact, luminous sound, an almost telepathic rapport among its musicians, and a stage presence that seamlessly combines rigor with vital momentum.
A decisive turning point came in 2016 with its victory at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, which firmly established its reputation on the international stage. Since then, the Quatuor Arod has been a regular guest at major European and international venues, building a steadily rising career also thanks to ambitious programming reflected in an already significant discography, ranging from Haydn to contemporary music, and including Schubert, Mendelssohn, Debussy, as well as Schoenberg and Zemlinsky.
What is particularly striking about the ensemble is its ability to approach a wide repertoire with a fresh perspective: rhythmic drive, meticulous attention to dynamics, and intensely expressive phrasing give rise to performances of great tension and energy, always underpinned by an extraordinary structural cohesion.
In Spoleto, the quartet presents a program of striking contrasts, yet complementary in its expressive diversity: Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5, charged with primordial energy and strikingly modern in its formal architecture, and Brahms’s String Quartet No. 3, a masterpiece of Romantic maturity, rich and impassioned. Two sonic worlds that, in the hands of the Quatuor Arod, promise an evening of exceptional intensity.
